HowTo - Get a picture by my comments
What are those little icons that show up by people’s name in the comments? How to I get one? The icons are called ‘Gravatars. In the cyberworld; an avatar is an image, icon, photo that represents someone. Gravatar.com is a website that provides ‘globally recognized avatars’ (gravatars). Voxtropolis, as well as many other webpages on the internet, use gravatars so people can represent themselves in pictures. A gravatar is linked to your email address. That’s how Voxtropolis knows what your gravatar is. To register for a profile picture/icon:
- Go to http://www.gravatar.com/signup.php
- Enter your email address and a password twice.
- Check your email for an email from Gravatar.
- Click the link in the email to activate your account. A message at the Gravatar page will tell you “You have successfully activated your account!”
- On the same Gravatar page, click the ‘Upload your avatar now’ link.
- Click the ‘Choose File’ button then locate the picture on your local computer.
- Click the ‘Upload’ button to upload the photo to Gravatar.
- Your gravatar will initially show up as “Pending gravatar”.
- All gravatars are rated to ensure any inappropriate content is not shown.
- Once the gravatar is rated (usually within 24 hours), it will automatically start appearing in the comments and on the Voxtropolis Community page.
Please note that a gravatar is only associated to the email address you registered it with. Therefore, any comments you add onto people’s blog posts need to be added using that same email address in order for the gravatar to show.
