I’m not sure what I’m missing, but when I went to the beta site to sign up, there was no button to click to join. I have gone to a few others’ sites and clicked the “join vox now” button, but it sends me back to the beta home page and there’s no where to go from there. Am I blind or is “join now” button invisible???
Thanks for you help! my email… stacijoy@adelphia.net

Greeting,
I also came to the site looking for the same button. let me know.
January 12th, 2006 at 6:00 pm
Yeah, same problem. Didn’t find this blog right away though…Dr. Lori reported a “bug” for me. Can you help?

A bug! When I click on a entry title or the comment link (on my page), I am taken to Vox Cafe page
January 12th, 2006 at 6:35 pm
Hi Eric,
Fix in on the way.
January 12th, 2006 at 7:20 pm
How do I upload a picture for my blog? (you know the ones at the front of the cafe in the little boxes)
January 12th, 2006 at 7:47 pm
The “logged in:” at the top of my blog used to say my user name when I was logged in but now doesn’t.
Also I can’t get on the vox map no matter what… I’m wondering if it is a glitch due to my country code (Canada: CA) being the same as California’s state code??
January 12th, 2006 at 7:52 pm
Stephen, you can go to: http://breathefire.voxtropolis.com/2006/01/06/voxtropolis-howto-picture-by-my-comments
January 12th, 2006 at 7:53 pm
Are we able to get a word-wrap setup to stop links like above running off the edge?
January 12th, 2006 at 8:01 pm
I also get a script error when I click on the picture icon to add a pic to my post. Ironically I have a pic of the error on my page so you can jump over there to see it.

January 12th, 2006 at 8:04 pm
Thanks for all your hard work so far.
January 12th, 2006 at 8:10 pm
nooc, use CA for Canada. US cities will need to have US appended at the end or it will not get the geocode. When you save your profile, you should see your geocode underneath your city.
January 12th, 2006 at 9:00 pm
I see a geocode there but I’m still not on the map.
January 12th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
It should take a few seconds as it writes to an XML file. If you see the geocode, you’ll show up on the map.
January 12th, 2006 at 9:17 pm
Nothing yet. According to instructions I should be entering a location of Winnipeg, CA for Winnipeg, Canada correct? But there is an existing point on the map that shows up Los Angeles, CA without US on the end… so is it just giving me the geocode for California? It’s giving me: 49.8833333, -97.1666667.
Am I just an impatient beta tester?
January 12th, 2006 at 9:21 pm
Hmm…I already see you on the Vox Map. Winnipeg, Canada, right? Yes you’re there!!!
January 12th, 2006 at 9:24 pm
I see you there too!
January 12th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
Yeehah! I guess a “few seconds” is open to interpretation.
January 12th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
Having trouble getting my profile pic on. Do I simply have to wait until the gravatar site lets me know that it’s ready?
January 12th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
Staci,
Yes, wait for the gravatar email after registration then upload your pic. There is a bit of a delay sometimes.

January 12th, 2006 at 9:45 pm
Thanks Steve! And another question… how do I start customizing my site? For example, changing the “About” to “About Staci.” I filled out a short bio, but it’s not showing up. What are the WordPress links there for?
January 12th, 2006 at 9:58 pm
You should have seen my answer re About to About Staci (if you login and then click on ‘Manage’ you’ll see an option called ‘Pages’. Click on that, and then you should see an option to edit the page. You should then see how you can change the title. Also, to create new pages, you can click on ‘Write’ and then ‘Write Page’.) Let me know if that sorts it.
The word press links are just default links which you can take out. To edit, delete and add new ones just login and then select ‘Links’. There you will see options to Manage and Add Links. Going to Manage Links will enable you to delete the WordPress links if you want to. You can also create categories to break up the links into sections (see my site as an example).
Come back to me if you have more questions.
January 12th, 2006 at 10:03 pm
Thanks Sam — things are rolling now. Lot’s to “sort out” though as you put it. It’s like a new fun game to play with! I do have lots of questions, but for now, more time cruising through all the buttons and trial and error should take care of most of them. But I’ll come back to you when I get stuck!
January 12th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
when i try to upload a flicker pic i get this error message:
The Flickr API returned error code #3: Parameterless searches have been disabled. Please use flickr.photos.getRecent instead.
help.
January 12th, 2006 at 11:34 pm
I tried to follow a link from email to reset my password and i keep getting this error message:
Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid.
January 12th, 2006 at 11:38 pm
Has it worked ok previously or is this the first time you’re using it, Niza?
January 12th, 2006 at 11:39 pm
Erin,
I’m going to email your password. After you’re logged in you can change it.
Niza,
You need to enter your Flickr username in Options > Flickr post bar
January 13th, 2006 at 1:28 am
Any chance there’s a process/tool for migrating past blogger entries to voxtropolis?
January 13th, 2006 at 1:33 am
Lon,
Yes, this is a option we are presently working on. We hope for you to be able to import entries from other blog tools.
We’ll keep you posted on the progress of that feature.

Question 1: Can’t upload pictures by following the directions. How do I upload pics?
Question 2: Can we have a tutorial?
Comment 1: Not clear where my home page is vs. the page called Dashboard.
Comment 2: Not easy to navigate. Don’t understand the tool bar when posting.
Comment 3: I use MySpace and Xanga and find them both far easier to intuitively navigate through (especially myspace). What the heck is Blogroll??? This site is WAY to ‘techie’. The ‘average joe’ needs to be able to jump on here and feel very comfortable or they will stick with MySpace and Xanga.
January 13th, 2006 at 1:53 am
How do you categorize a post?
January 13th, 2006 at 1:57 am
Once I came here to post a comment there was no link to go back to my home. ‘Home’ on this page takes you to ‘Vox Support’ home.
January 13th, 2006 at 2:00 am
How do I post a profile pic so it shows up on the Cafe page?
January 13th, 2006 at 2:04 am
The generic comment that first appears when you sign up does not give accurate language on how to edit or delete comments. You have to go to ‘Manage’ to delete or edit comments.
January 13th, 2006 at 2:41 am
i noticed that the RSS bottom shows up in safari but not in firefox. is it supposed to be like that?
January 13th, 2006 at 2:51 am
I was able to post a photo by blogging on flickr and connecting it to my Vox site. But, then the photo disappeared so I deleted the post. I just want to blog on Vox and add a photo like I do with Xanga … is that possible???
January 13th, 2006 at 3:07 am
How soon are you added to the map once you become a VOX member?
January 13th, 2006 at 5:13 am
Tina,
What directions are you following to post pics? A howto should be online soon.
Tutorials for many things coming soon.
To categorize a post (while writing a post), click the plus sign next to the “Categories” blue item (next to the post text field). Clicking the plus sign expands the Categories to choose which categories to use.
Easiest way to go back to your homepage after leaving a comment is to click your name.
To make sure you are on the Vox Map, please follow the Vox Map Howto.
January 13th, 2006 at 8:47 am
Tina, just to say, you’ll need to create those categories first (if you haven’t already) by clicking on ‘Manage’ then ‘Categories’ and then ‘Add New’.
Thanks for all your comments/suggestions…we’re working on it. As to getting your picture on the Cafe page and by your comments there is now a link at the top of this Support blog called How-To - Picture by my Comments.

Hi…
I created an account a few days ago. longhaul.voxtropolis.com and was told that a password would be Emailed to me. It didn’t come in a day. I went to the “lost password” page and used that process. Said it had sent the pass, but it never arrived. My Email is correct. Am I doing something else wrong?
Thank you.
January 13th, 2006 at 11:59 pm
Hi Larry,
I will send your password to your email. You can change the password after you login.
Thanks.

Hi, my name is Molly and I wanted to say thank you! Your article here helped me in my homework and wanted you to know it. I was searching for info about royalty free stock photography and I somehow ended up on your blog. Tomorrow my teacher is going to get a very good homework done! I wish we can keep in touch, thank you again.

I have 2 questions.
1. As I read through the how-to stuff here I often come across strange fonts and characters. I don’t think it is my computer but I don’t know. Here is an example from a paragraph on the time-zone change post:
(The default is set to Greenwich Mean Time (or UTC) so, for example, if you live in California, you would need to enter “-8 whilst if you live in South Africa you would need to enter “+2. If you are not sure of your time difference, go to http://www.worldtimezone.com/.)
2. In the write a post section I went to upload a word document file. It said it could upload that file type. What kinds of files can it upload? And what is the purpose of uploading a file?
Thanks.
February 20th, 2006 at 5:23 pm
Jason,
Thanks for point out the errors in the HowTo guides. We’ll get them updated.
The upload is just for images. We’ll try and make that clearer.
Thanks,
VoxCT

I can’t upload any of my pictures because the message says the file exceeds the max limit or something like that. They’re just regular photos from my digital camera, never had this prob before blogging. What do I do?
February 27th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
Hi,
I also blog on Xanga. Is there a way to link the two so that a post on one blog appears on the other as well?
Thanks for any help.

I am still having trouble with the gravitar pic being put onto my vox. I have signed up for gravitar and I have my pic uploaded on their site but it does not “follow” me to other blogs I create that utilizes gravitar. I have great practice customizing Myspace and Blogger, but I just do not get how to use gravitar. Any help would be appreciated.

Well this is interesting. After posting my foiable, I see that the pic actually came along with it..!!
But when I go to the Voxcafe, I see the pic of those who have a most recent post, yet mine is still the default pic.

Is there a way to customize your sidebar to include more sections or to rename currect sections? For instance, I have the bike scape and I would like to add a section for website links that is distinct from the blogroll section, etc. Can you do that sort of thing?
May 25th, 2006 at 9:33 pm
Do you have to use the preset content (barcelona skyline ect)? How can you change to make it more personal? Is there places to get other premade ones…
I am new to this so forgive me…

When I try to insert an image into a post, the dialog box looks nothing like what is in the tutorial. Most importantly, there is no “browse” button so I can go locate my image. I haven’t the slightest idea how to find and insert my images “URL”. Please help. I don’t think VOX is a great place for some of us who aren’t very techy. I need some advice. I just want to get on and write and add images. Tell me if i picked the wrong blog site to start.
June 12th, 2006 at 5:41 pm
Also, why are people talking about pharmecuticals on this help page? Does that seem strange to anyone else?
June 13th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
Could you confirm what browser you are using? (ie Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc)
Under where it says “Upload” you should see three headers: File, Title, and Description. On the right hand side of the “File” header, there should be a “Browse” button. From there you should be able to upload the images you need to. Let us know if this is not what you see and if you need any further assistance.
Good have you in the City of Voices,

I’m using internet explorer. What you’re describing appears below where I write stuff and is labeled “technorati tags.” As unbelievable as it seems, I have no idea how to make it work. I read the page about these tags and I’m not familiar with what they are talking about. I just want to load a picture from my own hard drive. It won’t seem to let me do it in that space. I click browse, find my image (Jpeg at web resolution), click “upload”, the picture appears in the little window. Then I type my post in the text place above and hit “publish”. When I go to view the site, my text is there but no picture.
Thanks for trying to help.

Profile pic? I browse and upload it, but it doesn’t appear. Just a black box. I’ve tried it a couple of times. Each time it reads “upload successful.”
I appreciate your hard work. Thanks for your help.

hi there! I was wondering is it possible for us to create our own voxscapes?
I am a software developer, so am pretty sure I would be able to cope with any techie stuff. Is this available to us or is it just guys in the know who are able to do this?
June 24th, 2006 at 6:52 pm
I have an old blog and I would like to bring over all my old posts from there. Is it possible to do that and have them post-dated as they were on the old blog (i.e., I don’t want to bring them over as new posts, I would like for them to be dated as they were originally).
Thanks.
June 24th, 2006 at 11:48 pm
Another question. Since I began using firefox with vox I have been unable to set up a link from my site to another to open in a new window. I insert the link and choose ‘open in a new window’ but it does not work. Can you help me out? thanks.
June 28th, 2006 at 11:01 pm
I have also created a new voxscape that I would like to use. Is there a way to upload it and use it. I have included the VOX logo in the pic. I really, really would like to use the voxscape I created, so any info would be nice.
spank you very much

How do you get a password protected post to actually work? Whenever I try one, I get an error where the post, or page, is supposed to be.
